Thursday The Oakland Tribune reported that the city of Oakland may allow four large-scale cannabis farms and is considering raising the number of medical cannabis dispensary permits from four to six.
This comes on the heels of the East Bay Express’ May 26th article highlighting the $2 million per year the City of Oakland could make if they permitted and taxed farm-scale cannabis grows. The groundbreaking, $16,000 study conducted by Economist Joan Brion of Brion Associates, said she was surprised at how potent an economic force cannabis is.
“My gut instinct said this would be a great revenue and job generator for the city”, she said. “But after running the numbers, I went ‘Wow, that’s really a job generator”.
Oakland city official Arturo Sanchez said the city council issuing a moratorium on medical cannabis cultivation as a prelude to a Public Safety Committee meeting to establish what large-scale licensed growing regulations would look like. Sometime over the Summer they will meet and decide whether to regulate it, or not.

This is proposed backed by money of the 4 large growers that want a monopoly. This would limit individual growers and kill mid to small growers in Oakland. This is a terrible idea Oakland residents should ask their reps to shoot down this proposal!
