So much attention has been paid to the senate race between Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina or the gubernatorial race between Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown – you may have missed the other critical race on Nov. 2 – the race for Attorney General.
The California Attorney General race — between Steve Cooley and Kamala Harris — is the most important election contest affecting medical cannabis patients- with more ramifications for the medical cannabis patient than Prop 19. Steve Cooley aggressively harasses legal medical dispensaries. A win for Los Angeles District Attorney Cooley could devastate the gains we have made in bringing safe access to medical cannabis for Californian patients.
According to a recent field poll, Cooley is ahead by several percentage points! We must reverse this trend!! A win for Cooley would be disastrous for the more than 400,000 medical cannabis patients in California. Let’s use our collective leverage to make sure Cooley is not elected as the next Attorney General of California!
Citizens all over the State need to stand up to say no - Steve Cooley is the wrong choice for Attorney General!! Here’s why:
Not Cool on Medical Marijuana…Cooley has and will criminalize the sale of medical marijuana and aggressively raid legal dispensaries around the State. The Attorney General needs to support the will of voters, defend legal patients, and promote sensible regulation.
Not cool on the environment…Cooley fired all but one environmental lawyer when he took over a LA County DA. California can’t afford to have an Attorney General who will not make protecting our environment a top priority.
Not Cool on Marriage Equality… Cooley has pledged to fight against any effort to over-turn Prop 8, which denies equal rights to gay and lesbian couples. We need an Attorney General who will defend the right of every Californian.
Not Cool on Women’s Issues… Cooley has a spotty record on women’s rights, including issues with discrimination in his own office. The Attorney General plays a key part in framing and enforcing laws concerning reproductive rights, including responsibility for enforcing the F.A.C.E (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) Act, for privacy protection and for bringing or not bringing lawsuits against those involved with reproductive rights.
We need your help to defeat Cooley. The first step is to get every patient signed up to vote by October 18th, 2010! Are you registered to vote? Is your voter registration current? If not, register to vote now.
Whatever your opinion of San Francisco DA, Kamala Harris, she is infinitely more progressive than Steve Cooley and has promised to protect legal medical marijuana patients.
A vote for Kamala Harris has been endorsed by President Obama, The San Francisco Guardian, SF Pissed Off Voter Guide, Americans For Safe Access and many others. You can find a full list here. Not surprisingly, endorsing Steve Cooley are many Law Enforcement groups and right wing public leaders, here’s a list.

Picture-perfect corporate fatcat that’s out of touch with the real world. Can we vote him out of the country?
