FYI:: BART is running an extended service until 3AM on all lines New Year’s Eve, trains will skip some downtown SF stations in order to mellow out congestion after the fireworks display at Embarcadero. See BART for the details to see which station your line won’t be stopping at.

The Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home program will be offered from 10 p.m. on Friday, December 31, through 4 a.m. on January 1, 2011. 1. San Francisco: Fireworks at the Embarcadero, FREE.

Ring in 2011 with 200,000 fellow bundled-up San Franciscans for a waterfront fireworks tradition as the city is once again hosting a free waterfront midnight fireworks show on New Year’s Eve.

Arrive by 11:30pm and head south of the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero for the best view. Fireworks kick of right at the stroke of midnight.

2. Alameda, Dance Party onboard the USS Hornet, W Hornet Ave & Ferry Point: $45-$80

Take a dance lesson, have a cocktail and enjoy three dancefloors onboard the historical USS Hornet in Alameda. Dinner tickets may be purchased separately. This event is not suitable for children. (12/31/10 - 7:30pm - 1am)

3. Oakland, Primus @ The Fox: $42.50

5. San Francisco, Not Your Normal New Year’s Eve @ Herbst Theater: $25

Not Your Normal New Years Eve is a great comedy night that takes place at the grand Herbst Theatre with live music and a big balloon drop at midnight. The show features a big line-up of comedians. For more details visit here. (12/31/10 - 8pm)

6. Concord, Professionals Guild NYE Blast @ Hilton Concord Hotel: $67-75

7. San Francisco, Streets of San Francisco w/Steve Aoki @ Fort Mason Center $200-$300

The historic Fort Mason Festival Pavilion building is transformed into a miniature cityscape emulating the landmark sights and sounds of San Francisco. This year, upon entering the party you will literally step into a “Streets of SF” time-warp as we recreate what it looked like in San Francisco during the “Gold Rush” era of 1849, and as you move through the party, the scenery will transform through the decades, all the way up to present day and to what the city might even look like in the future!

8. San Francisco, 1984 Dance Party @ Mighty SF (119 Utah): FREE

Free party favors and free champagne toast at midnight at Mighty SF. With two Dance Floors of Non-Stop 80′s music. Be a guest and join them as they celebrate the dawn of a new year. (12/31/10 - 9pm- 2am)

9. Alameda, Pacific Pinball “Free Play” New Years Eve @ The Pacific Pinball Museum: $25 per person

For New Years Eve The Pacific Pinball Museum in Alameda will switch all of the machines on free play (no quarters needed!) from 6pm until 2am. Free champagne at midnight, hats and noisemakers and all new tunes on their three new jukeboxes playing your requests.

10. Berkeley, Annual New Year’s Eve Balkan Bash @ Ashkenaz (1317 San Pablo Ave): $20

New Year’s Eve at Ashkenaz is traditionally an all-night affair of Balkan music and dance, in honor of the late Ashkenaz founder David Nadel and the music he first featured at his world dance club. This year’s event includes the Balkan folk music of Édessa, Brass Menažeri’s wild brass band approach, and Joe Finn & Leslie Bonnett’s Scandinavian and Cajun music, with some musical surprises promised by all.
