PCC Report:

In an industry that has had to hide for so long in the shadows, I suppose it should come as no surprise that even the most integral of American strains is shrouded in legend and lore. If you are new to medical cannabis, you may not be familiar with the name Chemdawg, but there is a fair chance you’ve tried it. Chemdawg’s lineage is unknown, reputedly the spawn of seeds someone found in an ounce of high quality cannabis, which ended up producing the four phenotypes that are present today. These phenotypes have been used in a number of very well known crosses: Sour Diesel, Diesel #1, and most notably OG Kush. Chemdawg is more than just a keystone of American medical cannabis breeding, it also offers its own unique benefits to patients.

Chemdawg is particularly striking upon first appraisal. Its appearance represents an incredible balance of both sativa and indica properties: long colas that have tight nodal spacing. Shades of light green are emphasized by the healthy salting of crystals and the generous rusting of pistils. The calyxes are very swollen, providing an apt comparison for the OG Kush. Unlike OG Kush, however, an eighth will often comprise a single bud, instead of a number of smaller ones.

The aroma that I first encounter upon opening the bag is like greeting old friends; hints of all of Chemdawg’s progeny are present. Lighter than the OG Kush, and not quite as sour as the Sour Diesel, Chemdawg’s defining scent is that of pine. As for most strains, this veritable bouquet is a good indication of its taste and makes my mouth absolutely water with anticipation.

Despite my eagerness, the roll goes without incident the benefit of well dried and cured herb. The dry pull provides a fuller example of the taste: piney notes interspersed with some citrus, and an almost undetectable underlying sweetness. The impression carries over to the smoke as well, improving the overall experience. Similar to OG Kush, I find the onset of the high to be almost immediate. Within the first couple of drags I feel a tingling in my face and gradually it makes its way throughout my body. Although we are unsure of Chemdawg’s lineage, I find its effects to replicate that of a sativa heavy hybrid. The mental stimulation it provides can be intense and less functional in its onset, but levels out energetic and uplifting. Not quite as effective as some of its more physical offspring, Chemdawg still manages to ease ailments like pain and nausea while stimulating my mind and allowing me to think about other things.
