We are well into 2011 and it is high time to get out and do something exciting! There are all sorts of cannabis related events in the near future, some showcasing the medical marijuana community and others that are simply fun. Here are a few events to plan for:

If you haven’t planned something on 4/20 besides the obvious, there is a comedy show at Punch Line Comedy Club in San Francisco guaranteed to be hilarious. Hosted by Ngaio Bealum, the show is dubbed “Puff Puff Laugh” and features Dan Gabriel, Greg Edwards and others. Tickets are $15, the show starts at 8 pm, and PCC staff are planning on enjoying the show.

As an alternative to comedy, Cypress Hill will be performing at the Warfield in San Francisco to celebrate April 20th. If your memory of the late 90’s is a bit fuzzy then these legends should jolt you right back into the past. Needless to say, the atmosphere should be extremely cannabis friendly… Show is at 8 pm, tickets are $42 and still available online and at the box office.

Just around the corner is the Deep Green Festival, April 23rd at the Craneway Pavilion in Richmond. This event is a 14 hour self-titled “Celebration of Cannabis, Health and Ecology”, and will feature discussions by medical cannabis experts, industry related vendors and exhibits, a separate showcase for dispensaries and a lounge for medical marijuana patients. Highlighting the evening will be several local DJs and musicians, including MC Yogi, The Coup, and Soul Majestic among others. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door, but if you are a student, senior, ride there on a bicycle, or carpool with 3+ people, you will qualify for a substantial discount.

Also on April 23rd is Earth Day SF, and although not specifically cannabis related, there will be tons of fun including green technology booths, eco art displays, food and great music. The theme is sustainable living, and it features a family oriented atmosphere so no medicating on site. But the music should be great, with headliners including funk singer Sila and local rock/blues phenoms Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers. The event goes from 10am to 6pm and will be held at Civic Center Plaza in the city. Public transportation is a must and best of all admission is FREE for the public.

No worries if you didn’t make it to HempCon in San Jose last January, because it is coming back to the San Jose Convention Center on Jun 10-12th. Hempcon features exhibits for both the general public and patients, so you don’t need a cannabis recommendation to purchase tickets or enter the main door. The main floor has lots of exhibits with different grow related innovations and a doctor who offers new recommendations to qualifying patients. But if you want to go into the area where the dispensaries have booths, you will need a valid recommendation and California ID. This is a great way to investigate multiple San Jose area dispensaries without having to travel all over the South Bay. No smoking inside the venue, but just outside the doors the atmosphere has traditionally been very cannabis friendly. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advance and at the door.

Tickets just went on sale for Dr Greenthumb, Tommy Chong, and Snoop Dogg’s Spring Gathering and Medical Marijuana Festival on June 11, powered by Weedmaps. This one is a bit farther away, being held at the Nos Event Center in San Bernardino. But it might be well worth the trip, as the headliners are Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Travis Barker with Mix Master Mike, and Stephen Marley. Tickets are $50 for general admission, $150 for VIP, and there’s even a $420 high roller VIP for those seeking the ultimate Spring experience. Doors open at 12pm and tickets are available online.

The lineup has just been announced for this year’s San Francisco Outside Lands Festival in Golden Gate Park. This event has become the premiere summer concert event in San Francisco and features a huge amount of food and wine booths and multiple big name artists on several stages. The festival runs from Aug 12-14, and single and multi-day tickets will be available soon on their website.

We will keep you informed of events as the year goes on, and don’t forget to check Americans for Safe Access and NORML websites to see info on local meetings and local medical marijuana lectures and seminars.
