PCC Report:

As I have mentioned in previous reviews, cannabis strain names can often be strange and sometimes misleading. If one were to simply go by the names, one would probably end up avoiding a number of highly beneficial strains. The subject of this review would certainly make that list for me. Although typically known as AK-47, the strain available at Berkeley Patients Care Collective is called Cherry AK, a more sought after and fruitier phenotype.

Cherry AK’s appearance is almost exactly what you would expect from it’s lineage: a cross of Mexican, Thai, Colombian, and Afghani

landrace strains. The buds are thinner, emphasizing its sativa nature, but they are capped by distinctly kush-like forms. Upon closer inspection you can also see the calyxes have filled in, nicely eliminating the fluffiness that can sometimes be associated with sativa-dominant crosses. Due to its relative lack of pistil coverage and almost overabundance of trichomes, Cherry AK’s color is a very light shade of green. Past experience reminds me that lurking behind this seemingly innocent visage lies a smell that is liable to make your eyes water.

At the crack of the bag, I am not disappointed. My olfactory system is dominated as scents of skunk, cheese, and citrus blast up my nose. After the initial shock, my senses become better attuned to its scent and I can detect hints of pine and a deeper, fruitier smell. While I don’t find it immediately appealing, the strength of its odor makes me want to find out just what it tastes like.

Initially I thought I might try this out of a bong, but seeing as this is the Cherry phenotype I wanted to make sure I could fully appreciate the complexities of its taste. After grinding it up, its smell subtly changed to more citrus in nature, perhaps leaning more towards the fruity taste we are looking for. It rolls up easily, allowing me to better focus on other things and appreciate the dry pull when finished. The taste while smoked is an incredible balance of sour and sweet, tending toward the more honeyed side as you continue to inhale. This combination provides a truly cherry-like flavor, making it all the more pleasant. I am always surprised by the expansive capabilities of Cherry AK, while not harsh in the least I do find myself taking shorter drags for a more relaxed experience.

The high is exactly as I would hope: energizing and uplifting, although slightly disorienting on its onset because of its psychoactive strength. Cherry AK not only provides a boost to those folks looking to be active and focused, it’s also one of the longer lasting sativas, allowing you to medicate less frequently throughout the day.
