PCC Report:
Despite the recent rise in popularity of CBD rich strains, many patients still remain unaware of their benefits. At Berkeley Patients Care Collective, we consider it of the utmost importance to educate ourselves and our patients to the best of our abilities in order to better understand what cannabis can do for us. For this reason, this weeks review will take a good hard look at two CBD rich strains: ‘Harlequin’ and ‘Terpene Queen’.
After a toss of the coin I pick up my sample of Harlequin for a quick once over. Upon first appraisal, I’m struck immediately by it’s appearance: dense and chunky, with buds larger than golf balls, but just as round. Trichome coverage is impressive, specifically as I pull apart the bud, displaying a ripe amber sheen hinting at a well finished flower. The scent that accompanies my examination is sweet and slightly earthy, with an underlying spiciness. Harlequin’s look and smell seem a bit contrary to me, I am anxious to see how it will affect me.
Before I can get to testing, I need to take a look at our other sample: Terpene Queen. Unlike Harlequin, I am not immediately struck by its appearance, nor overly impressed with the amount of trichome coverage. I am, however, blown away by the complexity of scents emanating from the bag. Bright and floral with just a touch of sweetness, Terpene Queen’s smell is more easily compared to that of a french perfume than a cannabis strain. The overabundance of terpenes bodes well: they each have their own medicinal effect as well as imparting their own scent.
Although it is difficult to resist immediately sampling them both, I decide its best to take it slow and make sure not to miss any of the subtleties in affect. First is my coin toss winner, Harlequin. To keep things easy, I roll my usual joint. The dry-pull yields a more saturated melon flavor, with a tickle of spiciness at the end. The smoke is enjoyable, but nothing of note, the onset of effect however is quite fast and certainly worth remark. A general easing of the body, coupled with mild mental relaxation, makes for a very medicinally beneficial herb. The high is functionally clear, the hallmark of CBD, tempered with deep physical relief, allowing the patient to focus as needed without impediment. Because of Harlequin’s significant pain-relieving physical effect, and overall benefits as a relaxation aid, I would recommend it for evening use, a way to unwind after a long day and take care of the aches and pains.
While I was excited to try Harlequin, the smell of Terpene Queen still had me dreaming. It seemed only right and fair to roll a joint, the better to appreciate the subtleties in flavor. Despite my efforts, I find the taste to be much less complex than the smell, while still remaining enjoyable. The effect was something different entirely: a more subtle physical effect paired with an uplifting and almost completely clear mental stimulation. While this may not sound ideal to some patients, it is perfect for those who desire relief without the risk of feeling over-medicated or out of sorts. Although it doesn’t energize me like some Sativa’s, Terpene Queen offers an alternative for days when I desire something on the milder side.
After a thorough testing of both, I feel they each have their own benefits. Both exhibit the characteristic pain-relieving and high-functioning clear effect of CBD, just expressed differently. While I found the physical heaviness of Harlequin to be excellent for the evening, I found the relaxing aspect of it to be too much for the day, where I preferred the clarity of it’s counterpart Terpene Queen. I feel both have really whet my appetite for CBD, I look forward to seeing what else will come of it.

i’ve been buying my medicine at your dispensary for the past month or so and i must say that for now you are the best i tried in California (although i only tried two other dispensaries) but unfortunately, the fact that you are the best i’ve tried here for now doesn’t change the fact that your meds are not helping me. Last wednesday i bought 2 g’s of your hash at 20$each(one of the bubba kief and another of maui super dog) put aside the fact that the maui super dog tastes and smells a lot like Afghani hash
and that in europe it is sold around 6$/g and not 20 i must say that i still don’t get anything like the effects i’ve been used to for the past 7 years in E.U while using Cannabis. In fact those last two grams were so ineffective i couldn’t find sleep till 10:30am (the only one slightly working is the Romulan CWH and yet the effect wears of in 10 to 20 min) Now you’re probably thinking what’s the link with our “CBD review” i believe that it’s CBD that produces that so called “buzz” in your head( what i’ve been looking for the past three months in CA). Moreover thats what your dutch colleagues have been saying from the first time i went there. add to that the fact that your high thc strains have a close to zero effect compared to the ones in the Netherlands and that in the netherlands high thc strains also have quite a bit of CBD i think that’s the answer to my problem. Overall i must say i’m quite disappointed due to the fact that i have always been told that the best flowers world wide grew in CA .well for now i cant say its true and the only thing i’m looking for is someone to prove me that i’m wrong.
PS:your Super Lemon Haze and your Lambsbread are closer to the kind of bud i’m used to in aroma and in the bud structure(less leafy) I guess the saying is true
Grass is always greener on the other side 😉
Hi Constantin,
I must say I disagree with much what you have written based on personal experience and recent information that has been gathered about the cannabis plant. Not to say I’m disputing your experience with Californian cannabis, some people react very individually to particular types of cannabis, different patients can have wildly different responses to the same cannabis medicine.
However, based on my experience growing up in Europe I think I know what you are talking about when you mention hash available in the E.U.. Growing up in Ireland, the hash available was mainly poor quality, Afghani border hash. Occasionally we would also have access to a nice pollen or sticky black - it was cheap, it worked. Since moving to California 6 years and beginning work in a medical cannabis dispensary, I have had access to a much wider variety of cannabis strains and a wealth of information.
We know that THC is the most abundant cannabinoid and probably responsible for much of the “high”. Scientists are still determining which other cannabinoids are psychoactive, or work in combination with the THC to produce a high - Terpenes, etc are in this category.
CBD, the second most abundant cannabinoid IS NOT PSYCHOACTIVE at all, and even mediates the effects of the THC. CBD has really strong anti-inflammatory properties, anti convulsive properties ~ great for pain and healing. There is also a cannabinoid called CBN. CBN is created when THC is oxidized or degraded, by heat or air, for example. It is not synthesized by the plant but is present due to the breakdown of THC. CBN is responsible for a a more stony, physical feeling - and I think it’s a cannabinoid that is more present in European varieties of hash and kief.
In my personal experience I found the hash in Europe to be much stonier than most of the hash here but not as psychoactive or strong. I also needed to use much more hash to achieve a good effect. Perhaps the if you respond well to high CBN and the hash here is more high THC/CBD that could explain why you aren’t feeling the same effect?
After living in Ireland and visiting Holland…and then seeing what is available in some parts of the US, I feel pretty lucky to be living in a place where high grade, mostly organic medicine is not just available ~ it’s expected! Northern California provides that for me.
hmm i tried your cannatonic (cbd strain) the previous time and i must say i you’re right Laydeem, i was mistaken, CBD has absolutely no psychoactive effect but how do you explain the difference in potency in between the Dutch and the Californian cannabis i didn’t become totally immune to cannabis just by taking a plane to SF?! you’re saying that CBN is the chemical that procures the stoned effect and after reading your comment on CBD and your explanation on the THC degrading into CBN i guess i was mixing up CBD with CBN cause i had herd of the same oxidizing story how come there is much less here than in holland would it be that the curing methods differ(therefore affecting the oxidizing process) ? or different fertilizers developing more or less of certain chemical aspects of the plant? i’d love to talk a bit about it with you and compare our European experience (will have to wait for my allergy to clear up a bit tho i’m not in much of a sociable mood these days lol, the food is slightly different here too). PS: about european hash i cannot agree with you i have “worked” mainly with hash over there (6yrs) and of course the low grade is bad and much worse than any low grade here (for hash) but the high grade is far superior even if it isn’t “pure” extract i don’t know if you’ve heard of ketama gold (~ 3000euro/kg) or mazari sharif(~2800euro/kg) even for coffee shops they are high grade imports. And the Ice-o-lator hash (cold water hash) in holland is almost like a hard drug it gets your brain numb in a single joint, . And i’m not saying the stuff over here is bad because flavor-wise and on clear side of the high the cannabis is good but thats not the effect i’m looking for in the plant. Anyway am sure that i’ll be able to learn a lot through our further conversations and am looking forward to them, that is if you’re willing to of course.
sincerely

lol sry bout that a “Post Scriptum” (PS) usually comes after you sign

as i mentioned previously i tried your Cannatonic (CBD strain) alongside with your Super Lemon Haze and some Lambsbread for 2-3 days and then i tried your S.L.H and Lambsbread without the cannatonic these past two days and it seems that the CBD enhances the high of the THC strains but i’m not quite sure about that yet requires more testing 🙂
Please get someone who suffers anxiety to post a review of the high cbd strains. There is a complete lack of those kind of reviews anywhere online that I can find and I was hoping in a search to finally have found one.
I completely agree CBDGuy. I actually really wanted that from this report but we were unable to find a candidate in time for publication. Our reviewer did his best but it’s not exactly what we were looking for, in some ways. I will keep trying to find proper candidate for the high CBD review, a patient who does not do well with high THC. Thank you for your feedback.
For sure! This “explosion” of high CBD exploration may be just the ticket to get disenfranchised users back on board. Meaning those folks who were previously unable to enjoy the benefits due to “growing out of it” (read WTF happened to my shit it’s all wacky all the time now.)
Seriously though, since CBD has shown anti psychotic & anxiolytic effect it would be awesome to hear from a panic attack prone agent(now non user because of it) report the effects for all us cannabis starved patients. This was the only thing that used to calm my ADHD, oh sure there’s ADDerall, but are you kidding me?
This market would be awesome. ADHD, panic (now your everday anxiety variety, but OMG I’m losing my mind type) patients could use some love too.
Shoot I’d jump on a lifetime supply of the first bud to address those issues; I’m sure many others would as well.
If money is an interest, it’s there. If humanity is an interest, it’s there. IF just plain pride, look at the cool new stuff I made, it’s there.
@ Alex; i just read your post Alex and i wonder if you’ve ever known anyone with ADHD/ADD; through the sarcasm you distill in your post, clearly you haven’t. Starting kindergarden i was always the last one to finish all activities from cutting out patterns, drawing, learning how to write. in my first years of school by the time i had finished writing the “C ” in my name all others had started the exercise and once i had finished with my family name most had gone through the test. Moreover i was absolutely unable to learn any subject unless i had a high interest in it (ADD hyper focus) i could spend hours reciting poems learning math formulas it just wouldn’t go through and what did just went out the back door again, even though i tried very hard the next morning it was as if my brain was reset. inevitably those kind of difficulties lead you to various other problems Depression (we all know how cruel kids can be with each other), Anxiety and clearly not feeling but being misunderstood. My parents finally decided at age 10 to bring me to a doctor (in Switzerland) specialized in mental disabilities I have been diagnosed at age 10 with a strong ADD background (actually ADHD but through a very repressive and strict education it muted to an introvert form ); you would then think hmm ok well he’s been diagnosed so give him the cure, Ha ha ha too easy; in Europe at the time ADHD was considered as an “all American” disease and therefore all medications that could potentially be effective were banned from the market (understandable since ritalin is a very controversial med close to extasy) so since there was no solution, i just had to keep on going even if it was meaningless (=deep depression) until 2005 when i couldn’t stand the depression anymore and was really low spirited, one of my friends told me “ton probleme c’est que tu reflechis trop” meaning “you think too much” and from there on my goal was to try and reduce my thinking ability my first answer to that was obviously drugs, products for which i had a global fear before became my solution (my mom used to say “don’t touch drugs they fry your brain” oh boy was i going to deep fry it ) having never even smoked before, i went up to the guy known as the dealer in school and asked for a 10 euro piece of hash
and even though it was very low grade stuff (in france hash in general is called “shit” )[due to the fact that cofee shops in Holland were accepting to buy the good stuff at a more costly rate, thanks to their shops, they felt stronger in raising the price than a guy you’d usually bargain with on the street (with no regulation as to supplying or pricing ect) they could allow themselves to display crazy prices with no repercussions at all since they were the “official market” trend setters and the black market being entirely $$$ motivated could only approve and force the prices up by bringing lower grade to a shop 1 out of 2 times (cut, impure products )saying it was a bad season but they still have a bit of the previous one as a “reserve” only it will be more expensive.Greed 🙁 . where the thing really gets perfect is that any cofee shop realizes that since the people buying here are tourists they probably don’t know much about Cannabis so even if as a buyer for a cofee shop makes a mistake and buy a low grade at a slightly higher cost over the years their %margin doesn’t change but the baseline price does and so do the benefits the only one who loses in the end is the tourist who probably will never come back making the hash and flowers on the black market go crazy as well so crazy that today in europe 1 kg of *****(meaning five star)amnesia haze goes for 5000 euro sometimes even up to 6000 depending on resin formation and maturity of the buds] anyway back to ADD lol so as was saying i bought the 10 e of “shit” and spent an hour trying to roll a joint (ADD have low coordination too ) but from the instant i took those first three hits it was like magic all my cerebral torments were over at least for the evening and that was the beginning of a true love story with Mary. i rapidly started buying larger amounts of better quality stuff in order to be sure i was out of harm from the fluctuations of the black market (summer price raises due to less dealers ect)and the next step is obviously to work along with the system, being unable to finance my personal consumption or to grow my own( mom can i get an HIPS lamp for xmas ;-)altho i did try to grow once saying they were litchis but obviously when your mom is a horticulture passionate and a landscape designer that kind of tale only lasts till the first leaves appear… plus i doubt that halogen would have done the job) until eventually ritalin was allowed in france and i got my prescription (i had never used anything else than cannabis yet) and that was dramatical the ritalin being a very hard med to tune into it goes along with lots of side effects and indeed i was able to sit through an essay without looking through the window and having a whole orchestra going through your head or just feel better overall but that lasted 2 weeks and i was back into severe depression only this time i went through thinking that the official meds that are supposed to make me better only worked half time for 2 weeks while Cannabis had been working fine for the previous 2 years; so after going through a terrible phase and nearly o.ding i was back in the game and could only conclude that what worked for most people didn’t work for me and from then on i would do entirely what i feel like doing so i stocked up again and kept on medicating until, eventually, i got arrested and moved to Cali so i could be out of reach of Politics (so i thought). Because of politics most growers freak out when they have buds and decide to harvest too early and there are very few growers that know about the resin formation or at least care to do it properly. also the fact that the dispensaries have such high prices it motivates greed and u can go on for long (since fear brings more fear love more love it works the same for greed). i believe that everything is balanced and at a point of stillness until it starts interacting with the universe.the starting point i guess would be your first heartbeat moment you are generally “loaded” with a lot of positive energy by the joy of your parents that lasts through the first years of childhood and every encounter/experience you make/live load you with a bit more positive/negative energy depending on the nature of the happening. A person who has ADD unless attended and constantly guided to the point of balance in a way that his mind won’t contest it, will constantly be bumping in to the extremes of his ying yang (same pattern as a seismograph) and you’ll probably say well thats the normal way of life for all only ADD does that effect as if u were constantly on a cocaine high making consistent and regular ideas totally uncontrollable unless you manage to awake that hyperfocus mode and even then he’ll sound unconsistent because he skips steps in his thinking process that seem obvious to him and not necessarely to others and indeed cannabis isn’t a cure for ADD but it helps with all the second step problems issued from the disability its exactly like trying to go to sleep after a big cocain line “impossible until it wears out”
altho we tend to disagree often 😉 i must say you’re still the best i’ve seen for now other dispensaries drown the few nice strains in all the buds they can find and therfore is just annoying and others you really wonder who would buy that stuff ive seen quite a few really ugly buds man i just don’t get it i would be ashamed if i were to be in their position selling it to a patient using for relief when they are clearly $$$ oriented.

sorry i totally forgot to link it to CBD and in the end from my point of view its just a question of scale
and that you need balance in all: sativa yang indica yin thc yang cbd yin and cbn to bind it into what u call “dank” (and that obviously calls for a lot of reserch in isolating and stabilizing the strongest phenotypes difficult thing due to the regulations growers are restricted to; the biggest difference in betweeen the US and E.U is the growing system E.U is almost exclusively black market products controlled by underground organisations that emerge through various routes up to the cofeeshops ->big grow ops with only the finest buds going to the shops and the rest is sent back underground to other countries and altho it is totally illegal it has a positive effect on the smaller growers who know they cant sell their product unless it is equal to the finest of the bigger system thus obliging them to invest only in the finest setups or having true expertise so that clearly means that not everyone has what it takes to be a grower an yes it does take balls to sit through your yield an extra few months when you know that your babies can be seized but i can assure you that you’ll find extreme results if you cure the buds properly (the whole difference in between someone passionate and someone money oriented) unfortunately there isn’t much demand for that most just don’t know what they’re missing and others cant afford to buy up front and invest in a curing setup the other reason is that proper curing takes optimal conditions just like growing otherwise you strongly increase the risk of various contamination ) . i actually cant really comment on the CBD regarding anxiety after all coz the only one i tried here was not in that mindset at all i was still looking for my “numbing effect”setting other criteria aside i just felt it was in the continuity of my previous “off topic” post and wanted a second opinion from i saw one of your collegues commenting on the fact that cannabis was like wine and thats exactly it the buds around today are like grape juice cure the sativas and you get wine cure the indicas and you get whiskey(and yes i know whiskey doesn’t come from grapes)
and again my apologies for the off topic post i kind of got spiked by that comment on ADD

I am looking for CBD, I have lung cancer 3b moving into 4 stage. I’d like to make sure I am getting simpson oil to try and shrink tumors !!!!! Does anyone know where to get this and if there any “free” to people who cannot afford the treatment?
Thank you!
Do you know the specific levels of cbd’s in either of those strains?
Had an incredible expreience with your High CBD low THC - AC/DC. My son has epilepsy. His E-drugs were reaching their outer limit of success. He was left with either changing E-drugs AGAIN, adding another psychoactive drug to his regime, or trying marijuana. After much research and talking extensively with his neurologist we decided there was no down side to trying this. We could not find an edible that was the ratios that we wanted to we went with the smoke-able. He tried it last night to find out how it would effect him since he would have to go to school in the morning. Mornings are always tough for him. He has myoclonic epilepsy that he grew into with puberty. This morning when he woke, he did not go straight to smoke as was the plan. He just took his meds as usually does and was making his breakfast. He was having a conversation with me that made sense (very unusual). No absance seizures and no muscle twitches. Those are usual for him in the morning. I did not recognize the kid I met this morning. He was not just having a “good” morning, it was the best morning he has ever had. I would have said it was a coincidence if it was just a normal good morning, but this was like his meds were REALLY working. I don’t know if there is a synergistic effect between the marijuana and the E-drugs but it sure did seem like it. He took a few tokes before school and will try the regime again tonight…
